Here are the details for the SFA exam on the 27th of December:
Date: 27 December 2012
Reporting Time: 1330 hours
Dismissal Time: Approx. 1700 hours (6 Dec); Approx. 1800 hours (27 Dec)
Reporting Destination: Tampines MRT Station
Attire: Mufti
Things you are required to bring for SFA:
1. Water Bottles
2. Personal Medication (if required)
3. First Aid Notes
4. TWO triangular bandages
5. TWO roller bandages
6. Ez-link card (containing at least $6 in value), Transport to/fro HQ is NOT provided.
7. Passport sized photo of yourself (to be used in SFA certificate)
At Tampines MRT Station, all of you will meet up with Jiening ma'am. She will be leaving punctually at 1.40pm, so don't be late! You will need to make the return trip yourself. Transport is not provided. The exam should start promptly at 3pm. The Standard First Aid exam comprises as follows:
Theory Exam: 30 minutes long, 30 Multiple Choice Questions.
At least 60% of the MCQs must be answered correctly to pass the exam, meaning you must score in at least 18 of the MCQs. The theory exam must be passed to proceed to the practical exam. Cadets who fail their theory exam on their 1st attempt will be given a 2nd attempt on the same day. Failing the 2nd attempt, you will be asked to retake the SFA on another day.
Practical Exam: 10 minutes each, 2 scenarios.
Scenario 1: Unconscious Casualty,
Cadets are required to do a casualty survey & give the appropriate emergency first aid - Heimlich Maneuver, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), or recovery position.
Scenario 2: Conscious Casualty,
Cadets are required to treat a bleeding wound and immobilize a fracture.
Dressing the wound must include the primary dressing, bandaging and
support.
For the fracture or dislocation, the possibilities may include:
1) Shoulder dislocation, 2) Ankle sprain,
3) Upper limb or Collar bone fracture,
4) Pelvis or lower limb fracture.
Failing the practical exam will lead you to have to retake the entire exam another day!

Do revise your first aid notes. You can also try to quiz/test your fellow cadet mates with questions to correct mistakes and clear doubts. As practice makes perfect, do try to practice your bandaging on your little brother/sister, with permission. (if you have one) If not, practice it on a willing friend. Take note of the following:
- Cut your nails short.
- Wear spectacle hooks.
- Tuck in your shirt at all times.
- Do not drag your footwear.
- Girls to tie bun and wear bun net, clip up fringe and feelers.
- Hair to be neat and presentable.
- Report on time.
